Description
1844 1d red-brown plate 49 (PF) exceptionally fine used on entire sent locally in Somerset from Watchet to Orchard Wyndham cancelled by a delightful black Maltese Cross with a Superb Strike of the Very Scarce Watchet Penny Post handstamp alongside. Dated inside 1845 Jan 17th. The Maltese Cross was officially replaced in April 1844 by a numeral handstamp making this a remarkably late usage. A superb and highly attractive local cover.
