26th. September 1794.A letter from posted on board HMS ADAMANT in Cawsand Bay Plymouth but receiving the PLYMOUTH DOCK two lined hand stamp. The letter speaks of General Doberg Sir John Jervis and Admiral Pringle and it would seem probable that the writer was seeking patronage or promotion from Sir John Jervis. The Adamant was to gain fame as one of the only ships not to be involved in the SPITHEAD mutiny in 1797 when she obeyed the signal to sail to blockade off TEXEL the remainder of the fleet making off to join the rebels at the NORE. In 1798 the Adamant was involved in the attack on ST. MARCOU. She was able to land a small force of 22 men and two detached guns in support of the garrison.
