Orange Free State SG F15a Five Pound Variety VRY-STAAT UNIQUE

Postal Fiscal. 1882-86 5 pound green showing the remarkable Variety VRY-STAAT (with hyphen) which occurs only once on the two-pane sheet of 120 at R1/5 on one pane. Fine M/M with fresh colour. (One creased corner perf mentioned for accuracy still very fine.) A fascinating variety excessively rare in unused condition. Die Proofs showed a hyphen in error between VRY and STAAT. This was removed from each impression on the plate before printing but it was missed on Row 1 stamp 5. This is the only Recorded mint Example. Cat 2250 pounds.
