1841 (30 Jan.) entire letter to a bookseller in Oxford bearing 1d. Black plate 8 HK (dark colour small to large margins all round) tied by a watery strike of pale red Maltese Cross the front marked No 198 Registered Letter with a small 1/- rate mark the reverse bearing the Liverpool despatch c.d.s. The letter with some age wear at edges but this does not affect the outside. B.P.A. Certificate (2011) which notes that the adhesive has been lifted and treated to reduce staining.A rare Penny Black registered cover and the second earliest recorded.
