South Africa Transvaal Wolmaransstad 1900 (23 MAY) cover self-addressed by Thos. S. Leask with Transvaal Stamps to 1/- cancelled with very fine strikes of WOLMARANSSTAD/Z.A.R. circular date stamps (another strike at left) on the date of the last post out of the town before the British Occupation. An interesting piece of Boer War postal history. Ex Leask correspondence. During the advance of the British troops into the Western Transvaal and through the Northern Free State towards Potchefstroom – and fearing their taking of Wolmaransstad – Leask prepared two sets of covers 22nd and 23rd May to record the last day of Boer control.
